Another incredible concert!!
Unbelievable, crazy, hot....the show was way more AWESOME than R.Kelly's, which I attended last Friday. (see my last blog posted)
The audience stood up when New Edition appreard on stage, and they wouldn't sit back. They...I sould say "We"....were stanading all the time during the show. Everyone sang with the guys together so it was too loud to hear the guys sing though. lol

I don't know how I can describe the show I mean I can't find any good words... but it was really really great and I enjoyed myself a lot. Definetly the memorable show....

R.Kelly R.Kelly R.Kelly.....such a great entertainer!!!
The show last nite @Paramount Theatre/Oakland, CA was SUPER AWESOME!!! I've never experienced such a HOT & CRAZY concert!!!
In this sold-out concert, the audience, including me of course, got so excited from the beginning...throughout the show. I really loved the last 20 minets of steppin' time! Steppers showed up on the stage and everybody in the house danced together...that was really fun time.

Stage set was goegeous, splended, and Mr. Entertainer R.Kelly sang and performed so great. This show is absolutely one of the memorable shows in my life. Guess what? This show is gonna be on DVD!!!!! I don't know when but we gotta keep an eye on it. It should be the good one and I'm so glad that I was the part of the great show.

After the concert, I wanted to go to another show -- Kofy Brown @Uptown Nightclub -- very close to Paramount Theatre, but I was too tired to go to the second show....I have no energy left....so I hopt to have another chance for Kofy.

They are teamed up and on the road together....and stop by Bay Area TWICE!! So I attended the BOTH show at Paramount Theatre in Oakland, CA, 4/19 (wed) & 4/24 (mon).

Let's start with Anthony Hamilton.....
On the 1st show (4/19), there was a huge crowd and eveyone, including me, got super high tension when Anthony hit on the stage. He is just great! He is the bomb! I loved his energy and spirit in his performance....
On the 2nd show (4/24), there was a little less people but still hot! His first outfit was different than the one on the 1st show and I liked his black T-shirt with white print on the left shoulder and on the back and I also liked his cap and hat, which is his trademark....he is such a fashionable man plus cool dancer.

Ok, Heather Headley.....she is such an incredible lady---so cute, sexy, powerful, energetic, beautiful..Theree are so many words to describe her. But more than anything, I really liked her singing with her gifted voice. She is so talented.
Oh, the song "I With I Was" touched my heart and made me cry.....

Finally, Van Hunt....
He got only 20 minutes to perform and I guess he sang only 5 or 6 songs. He was very cool and I really like his outfit..very stylish!!!

Kem's performance is so much better than listening CD. I mean, his fans should see his live performance cause it's SUPER!

When I traveled LA and San Diego with my friend who visited me from Japan in March, I went to his concert at 4th and B. Also I had a chance to see him again in Oakland Paramount Theatre in March 27th.

I love O'Jays. They are one of my favorite group from 70's as well as the Dramatics. I had the 2nd chance to see ther live performance here in SF Bay Area!!!

In this concert, I fell in love with Walter Willams.....

Luckly enough, I will be able to see the O'Jays and Dramatics again in Bay Area in May!!!!! I just can't wait....

Motown's Music Fest.

I went to Motown's Music Fest. right next day I saw the gospel concer in Mosonic Temple in Detroit. Since my favorite group, The Dramatics performed live there, I got really really excited...well, I got hyper tention, I should say....

Their performance was excellent as usual and the other artists were great!!

SUPERBOWL GOSPEL CELEBRATION

I went to Detroit again...actually this was my 3rd time to visit Detroit. I LOVE Detroit!!
Well, it was during SuperBowl week and I was sooooooo excited to be there, but things were just messed up and didn't go well as I had planed. However, I tried to enjoy myself anyway.

I went to SUPERBOWL GOSPEL CELEBRATION, which was very nice concert.

The Winans、Hezekiah Walker、Mary Mary, The Clark Sisters were there along with the headliner, Patti Labelle. They were all AWESOME!! expecially I liked The Winans. Their songs, performances and even voices touched my heart and I cried....
I really had a good time.

Will Wheaton ~ Old School Soul ~

I got this Old School Soul CD last month and have been listening to it so many times. FANTASTIC ALBUM!!
I guess I probably have listened to it more than 20 times or more by now. haha
As I listen to the CD repeatedly, I get to know the goodness of each song and they become an addiction.

When I listened to his voice for the first time, it reminds me of Will Dowining, so Will Wheaton might be categolized in the same group of Will Downing, Luther Vandross and that kind of singers, but I think he is more than that. I mean, of course Luther and Will Downing are very very talented great singers, however, I think that Will Wheaton has something different than them.

Hahaha....I like most of the songs!! But that's true though.
I am very interested to to hear the names of great soul singers such as Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, Temptations, Four Tops, Miracles, Low Rawls, who passed away one week ago, on the 1st track - Old School Soul. But it would be better if I could hear the name of my favorite legendary vocal group, The Dramatics!! LOL
I really like the slow sweet ballad song, "Never Meant To Hurt You" as well as "When Nobody Gave A Damn" cause they are very soft and warm. Also sexy number "Satisfy" and "Do My Thang" really make me hot! (^ ^) Then "Come On Everybody (Club Mix) definitely makes me feel dancing!! I like that!

Although I've lestened to this album so many time, I never got bored. I think, at least to me, this kind of "never-get-bored-CD" is truely the right one that R&B lovers must have.
Let me give a shoutout to Will Wheaton.

The Wandering Soul

Last night, I saw him perform his song "Can't Let Go" on NBC The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He was so cool with a nice hat and soulful as usual.

My man Anthony Hamilton was a licenced barber before he got a fame. I just got to know that recently in the article by Newsweek Entertainment, which surprised me a lot. He's know that he had had a hard time till he was finally discovered as a talented soul artist. I'm really happy about his success on his music career and would like to see him on TV or concert more and more.

I went to his concert with Angie Stone in Oakland, CA in October, 2004 and that was incredibly HOT! So I hope he will be on the road and I can see him again soon.

Lou Rawls has died

We lost again one of the soul legends, Lou Rawls after fighting lung and brain cancer in a Los Angeles hospital this morning (1/06). He was 72.
His "Love Is a Hurtin' Thing" topped the charts and earned Rawls his first two Grammy nominations in 1966 and also he won three Grammys in his career.

I hope everyone has a wonderful new year.

This picture is the traditional Japanese food that I cooked. On the new year day, we, as Japanese, have a custom to eat this kind of typical Japanese foods, which each dish has a each meaning for example, black beans mean a good luck and health for family.

Anyway, my very first day of 2006 was so simple but I had a good time at home with eating the Japanese dish, drinking Sake, and listening to O'Jays songs.

My new year resolutions is to listen to a lot of good music as usual....this might be just my wish though...LOL I expect musicians to give me a lot of that!!

X'mas is coming...

I got a X'mas tree and decorated it listening my favoite CD, "Dramatic Christmas" and "Ultimate Soul Christmas."
This CD contains standard Christmas songs such as "This Christmas" and their original songs like "All I Want for Christmas Is My Baby," which is written by Winzell Kelly.
My favorite song is "A Holiday Thought" because I like the dialogues by all the members except for Willie. I really like Ron's talking with his natural tenor voice. He is very sexy!! In addition, Lenny's bright voice can be heard so well!!
I also like the very first track "The Very Best Christmas" because Squirrel, the former original member, joins and sings together like back in the day.
Anyway, over all it's a masterpiece to me!

This Christmas compilation is dual CD album containing standard Christmas songs by various famous artists such as Luther Vandross, Donny Hathaway, Nat King Cole, Boyz II Men, The Whispers, The Temptations and so on. It's just gorgeous!! Among the album, my best song is The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas To You) by Nat King Cole, which is a cream of the crop all the time!

By the way, this is the decorated Christmas tree in my house.

Lenny Mays ~ a member of the Dramatics

Today is the 1st anniversary of Lenny May's passing.It's been 1 year since he passed and it's unbelievably fast. Time flies...

Although I never met Lenny, I really miss him. While listening "I Cried All The Way Home," which is his favorite song, I feel him existing in my mind. I wish I could see him sing on stage....

I will never forget him and he will always live in my heart.

When being at home, I listen to music most of the time with either stereo or iPod mini & speakers, which I wrote in previous post, and I need music especially when I'm cooking. For me it ain't too much to say that I don't feel like cooking without sounds. It's just boring without music. Sounds or rhythm of music is really important for cooking...maybe that applies only to me. haha

I often groove and dance with the music like this.....

Who laughed at me huh?? Hey You! You are laughing at me, aren't you??? LOL

Yeah, I know I'm silly but this is one of my ways to enjoy music.

Winzell Kelly released his first solo CD

One of my favorite artists, Winzell Kelly of the Dramatics, released his first solo album in September, 2005.
Of course I got the CD and listened to it....yeah, it's good! It's kinda an addiction again like OUTTA DA D, a R&B conpilation from EverReel Productions, which Winzell sings some of the songs in the compilation. (read my post in past)

A half of the songs in the CD are from OUTTA DA D and the rest are new songs. I like them all but my favorite is "Packin' My Bag" because another my favorite song, "It's You that I Need" of Enchantment is sampled. Therefore, "Packin' My Bag" has old school flavor, which is so comfortable to hear.

It's hard for me to identify their music genre. If someone says their music ic ROCK, I can agree with that, but it sounds like blues or soul. Their music has multi-music ganre flavers. Only I can say is that their music is SUPER!

Sons of Champlin Exclusive Performance - Part I

There was a Exclusive Performance at local Tower Records in San Mateo, CA on Sep. 20 and I went there to see the wonderful performers, Sons of Champlin.

They performed in-store live at the Tower Records to celebrate the release of the brand new CD, "Hip Li'l Dreams" on Aug. 23.
The performers are Bill Champlin, Geoff Palmer, David Schallock and James Preston, plus Carmen Grillo, member Mic Gillette, former Tower of Power and Johnny Bamont and they are so FUNKY!!

Brian McKinght Concert

Damn, it's been 2 months since my last post here..... What have I done without posting for a long time....???

I went to Brian McKinght concert last night (9/16) at Montalvo Garden Theatre, CA.
That was HOT HOT HOT! I really like him!!
He is so talented – sings very well with soft and smooth falsetto voice, which is so sexy, plays keyboard and guitar (both electric and acoustic). Also his talk is so funny.
Every time I go to concerts, I sometimes have difficulties to hear artists' talking through microphone, expecially at theatres with bad sound system, I could hardly hear and understand what they are talking about. But I could clearly hear his talk at the theatre, so I really enjoyed his entire show including his talk.

During his show, he pulled one lady up on the stage from the audience, took her hand and let her sit right next to him. He sang "Everything I Do" for her playing keyboard, and danced with her at the last part of the song, putting his body close to her, moving his hips.....
Everyone got excited to see that. I screamed like people did. Probably the lady was the one who was excied the most. I don't know how the lucky lady was picked up, but I really wanted to be the one.

Anyway, his performance was awesome and I almost cried while listening to the song "Everytime You Go Away," which was an emotional song with its lyrics.
Oh, he got my attention when he sang "Shoulda Woulda Coulda" with acoustic and up-tempo version cause it was like completely new song though it was difficult to identify the song and I wasn't able to recognize the song at the beginning.

I can't believe it!! Luther died at the age of 54.
My heart is broken and there's no word to express my feeling at this point.
I have expected his return to music industry with his brand new album and believed he was gonna surprise us by his wonderful voice.
He was too young to die.

Alicia Keys Concert

I went to Alicia Keys concert 2 nights ago (5/24) at Oakland Paramount Theater. She's so cute and definitely a true musician, entertainer!!
I couldn't listen to the soulful song "If I Ain't Got You" without tears because I felt her soul deeply and touched my heart. Her singing is so passionate and influential to people. I guess this is one of the reasons why she is so popular to everyone in the world.

By the way, she had an accident that her bra was unhooked while singin' and clappin' over her head. I heard her say "Huh" or something... and she turned around agianst the audience. Then she held the hook on the back and kept singin'......with a bitter smile. Since I was sitting in 4th row, I was able to see her very well.

The opening act at this concert was Mint Condition. It took me a little time to realize who they were because I was late, well actually I was on time but they seemed to start earlier.
They were so HOT and AWESOME!! They sang their new single "I'm Ready" and "What Kind Of Man Would I Be," both of which I often hear on my favorit radio station. They're gonna have concerts next week, 6/3-5 at Kimballs in Emeryvill, CA, so I think I'll go there to see the guys again!

They released a new album titled "Livin' The Luxury Brown." Also they have a blog site, so check that out! It's very cool.

A Birthday Gift

I got a birthday gift from my husband, which was unexpected and a big surprise!
I have wanted the speaker because I wanted to bring it with me when I go back to Japan in July.
As you can see, Altec Lansing inMotion iMmini Portable Audio System for iPod Mini is compact, light in weight and the quality is quite good. I used to use $20-old-speakers that I bought 6 years ago. Compare to the out-of-date speakers, the new one is too good!! LOL

I guess my blue iPod mini is very pleased to fit in the new speaker.
My music life becomes better and more enjoyable with it.

I really appreciate my husband for the surprise gift!! THANK YOU!! (^3^)//

Hot CDs

I have two albums that I really look forward to having. One is Raheem Devaughn's "The Love Experience," which will release on June 7th and the other one is Kem's "Album II," coming out on May 17.

Raheem Devaughn's "Guess Who Love You More" has been often on air on my favorite radio station, KBLX The Quiet Storm since months ago and when I first got to know his music, I was like "Oh my!! Who is this guy? Who sings this song? I gatta know!!"
He's got a lot of soul with talent I like the groove of his song. By the way, I can't pronounce his name...ha ha ha
We have almost one month to get the CD but I can't wait.
Oh, he's coming to Oakland Paramount Theater on May 28 as an opening act for New Edition & Brian McKnight concert.....
I wanna go but I can't....gee.....

Kem's second album is going to release next Tuesday, May 17, so definitely I'll go buy it.
His "I CAN'T STOP LOVING YOU" is absolutely good and so sexy as you can see his video. This song is also played on the radio quite often as well as "Love Call" — I listen to the songs once or sometimes twice a day. DJ's of KBLX must like his music though.

Anyway, good music always makes me feel good.

Nat King Cole

Nat King Cole is one of my favorite jazz singers and his music really makes me feel good and relaxed. As I'm always fascinated to singers' voices, which I consider it's one of the important aspects for singers, his soft and warm voice gets me loving his music. While I'm listening to his music, I can't concentrate what I'm doing cuase I just listen and sometimes sing together.

I was very much influenced by my father's taste of music. I mean my father is a big reason that I like Nat King Cole so much. When I was a teenager, I always heard his music every time I got in my father's car. I still remember he often played "Unforgettable", "Quizas, Quizas, Quizas", "Mona Lisa", "Stardust" etc. with his cassette tapes. When I listen to these songs, they remind me of my young days....with memories with my father. Maybe that's why I like Nat King Cole though...

I bought his latest CD entitled "The World of Nat King Cole" months ago although I have his Box set (actually I forgot about it when I bought the CD at store) and I'm listening to it while I'm writing now. It's so good!!! I guess Nat King Cole music will always be my favorite in my whole life.

He is a SUPER GREAT SINGER!

I can't believe it. I haven't posted for a month!!! Duhhhhhhhhh.....

Anyway....
Today I got to listen to the Dramatics songs on the radio agian (read the post on March 8th).
The songs are exactly the same, "Whatcha See Is Whatcha Get" and "In The Rain," which were both original version, "Wee Gee" mainly leads the songs.

Well, I'm very happy to hear their songs on the radio but they always play the same songs. I would like to hear the different ones, for example, "Be My Girl", "Hey You, Get Off My Mountain" or "Get Up and Get Down", at leaset their hit songs. I'm not saying I want them to play songs like "Jane" or "After This Dance"....

So I gatta request my favorite Dramatics songs to play.

Hitch

I went to see the movie "Hitch" starring Will Smith, Eva Mendes, Kevin James, Michael Rapaport, etc.
The movie is SO FUNNY!! I had to LOL many times. I felt that all the actors and actresses all enjoy acting in the movie.
I think that the way it starts is quite interesting. Will (as Hitch) talks directory to the camera as if he talks to the audience, giving some advice to us since he's a consultant of LOVE.

About the music....
There's a sound truck CD "Hitch".

I didn't know John Legend sings a new song "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing" until I bought the CD.
His song is very good. When I first listen to the Latin flavored song, I thought it didn't sound like his song. I don't know why but there's no doubt, it's definitely his song! I can feel a little bit different his style, which is cool.

And I like the song "Love Train" by O'Jays. I know this song is often used in movies.
Also I like the 3rd truck of the CD, Earth, Wind & Fire featuring Kelly Rowland and Sleepy Brown "This Is How I Feel"

Anyway, the sound truck CD is much worth to buy. Check that out!
And the movie, TWO THUMBS UP!

Concert in Washington, DC

I went to Washington, DC for the first time on my vacation, 3/19(Sat) - 3/22(Tue).
The main purpose of this trip was the concert entitled "Street Corner Harmony" starring The Dramatics, Blue Magic, Ray, Goodman & Brown, Enchantment, and Peaches & Herb.

When I first got to know about the concert, I thought I had to go!! because there will be no chance for me to see all of the artists together at one concert in the future. This is a huge opportunity and is much worth to travel from coast to caost.
Besides the artists appeared at the concert for my reason to visit DC, there's a spring break at college in the whole week of 21st, so I could spend for sightseeing there.

I was 10 minutes late for the concert, which was my first time ever to be late at the concert, because I just flied in DC 2 hours prior to the concert began.
When I arrived at the concert hall, Peaches & Herb already started their show.

I was so excited to see Peaches & Herb, Enchantment, Blue Magic and Ray, Goodman & Brown on the stage for the first time even though I've listened to their songs many times on CDs.
The most interest thing is that all the groups–Enchantment, Blue Magic and Ray, Goodman & brown– danced a lot, sweating on their faces.

I like all the artists but especially Enchantment is my favorite and I expected to hear the songs "Gloria", "Sunshine", "Where Do We Go From Here/Journey", "It's You That I Need" and "My Rose", "Silly Love Song", "Dance To The Music", and I did heare the first 4 songs that I just listed, but no others.
And right before they left, each member had roses in their hands and gave them to the audience and I got two pieces, one from E.J. Johnson and one from the other (I don't know his name...)!!

And the Dramatics!! They were great as always. I enjoyed myself a lot.
As I was sitting in the front row, I could see the guys so close and I could even "talk" through the eyes, which was so wonderful!!
L.J. and Winzell always move around the stage during the show and they did the same this time too. They both came close to me some times and sang to me I'm sure. When Winzell sang "Be My Girl" in front of me in very short distance, maybe it was about 3 feet away from me, I was like I'm wiiling to be YOUR GIRL!!! (*v*) HAHAHA (again I'm so silly....)

By the way, I was lucky enough to see the Dramatics and talk with them for a while after the show and I got to know that they are still deeply grieving over Lenny's death, which was more than I thought. I think that the Dramatics have to be the FIVE GUYS, Ron, L.J., Willie, Winzell and LENNY. Any one of them can't be missed in the group.
So I will never forget Lenny and will always feel Lenny in my mind.

I went to a famous jazz spot, Blues Alley in George Town on Monday night and enjoyed the show there.
I didn't know much about the group but they played some kinds of jazz such as smooth jazz, funk jazz, blues, bossa nova, fusion and swing jazz.
It's been for a while since I went to jazz live the last time and also I've listened to R&B/Soul music recently, so it kinda refreshed my mind. I think I like Jazz as much as R&B/Soul.

OUTTA DA D

I have some favorite CDs and today I want to introduce one of THE MOST FAVORITE CD, "OUTTA DA D" to everyone who reads this blog.

This CD is an AWESOME compilation album released by Ever Reel Records in October, 2004 and most of the songs are produced by Winzell Kelly of the Dramatics, who are my FAVORITE artists as you know.

What I like about the CD is that I can enjoy variety of music style like heart-warming, mellow & sweet, wild, funky, rhythmic and party-like songs since it's an R&B, Soul & Rap mixed music.
Every time I listen to the CD, it makes me feel so good and I always play it over and over.
It's been almost 2 months since I got this CD and I've listened to it every single day but I NEVER GET BORED.
I wonder why I like it so much.....mmm maybe it's just my cup of tea.

HAHAHAHAHAHA I like most of the songs.......I think all the artist did a great job on their songs.
The best track to me is "I Need You" performed by Winzell Kelly because I like it very much. I really like the dialogue Winzell speaks in the intro. He's just so cool and sexy!!!!!
So I often repeat only that part - his dialogue - and it's good when I hear it with earphones. I wish he could say the words in my ear. (*v*) ...I'm so silly....
Besides the dialogue, its longing, sweet lyrics are so nice and touches my heart every time.

I imported all the songs to iTune in my computer, iPod mini, and also have the CD in my car, so I can listen to the CD whenever and wherever I am.
Actually iTune counts how many times I play each song and it says I played "I Need You" 168 times by now. WOW!! But it's just about iTune.
I play the song with iPod mini and CD player in my car, which means I play it more than 168 times. I guess its play count is like more than 300 times total in two months!!!! I AM JUST STUPID.
(FYI: most of the other songs are played 40-50 times and "Can I Be the One"= 165 times with iTune only.)
So you know how much I like the song huh?

To tell the truth, I have two copies of the CD with me and I wrote a review in CD Baby about one and a half month ago, but it's not yet come out on the web.

The Dramatics

Recently I often listen to the radio in my car. Well I should say I TRY TO DO SO because I tend to play the same favorite CD over and over and over..... unlimitedly, which is not bad but I think I need to listen to variety of songs for myself to enhance my imagination in music.

Yesterday, I happened to hear the Dramatics song–"Whatcha See Is Whacha Get" AND "In The Rain" consectively.
This is VERY RARE. I mean their songs are rarely on air here in the bay area. I've never heard their songs before on the "KBLX the Quiet Storm" which is my favorite station in the bay area.
I have no idea why they don't play the Dramatics song. They might play, but it might be I'm not listening to the radio at that time though....
Maybe I need to request.....

At that time they had "All Request Lunch Hour Classic Soul" and I had my lunch in my car, listening the program.
When I heard the name of The Dramatics before the songs began, I was like AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!
I was so pleased and feelin' good the rest of the day.

iTune

I have iTune in my computer and I almost always import songs when I buy new CDs.
Now there are 1,841 songs total (8.75GB) and it says it takes me 5.4 days to listen to all of the songs continuously. Is it amazing???
Obviously the music files dominant in my computer and I'm quite sure I won't be able to save any files in my hard disk some day and it's gonna be very soon.....ooh, I'm scared...
This computer is supposed to be used for design but now it's just a music machine!
While doing something, like internet, email, college assignment, drawing, etc., I always play music in my computer instead of my audio player.
I don't have to change CD to switch to atnother CD. I mean I don't have to take the CD out of the audio palyer and put another CD in to play when I use iTune to play music. I just click click click.....on the music I want to listen to. Period.
How easy it is! I like that!

Today I happened to listen to "Think About You" by Luther Vandross on the radio (NOT iTune this time) and it made me feel good with its lyric. Then I got back to iTune and listened to the song again and again...thinking about "someone".....

By the way, how is Luther doing? I hope he's doing great and coming back to music scene again soon.

I finally set up this music site although it's a blog.
I don't know why I decied to make this site English only. hahaha
Maybe, that's because I wanted to do a big challenge writing in English.
Still I'm not used to writing in English but I know I need to write anyway; otherwise my English won't improve.
Challenge, challenge!!
I will try not to think too much about grammer though.

Now I'm listening to the Album "Subject" by Dwele.
I like his music and my favorite is the last track "Let Your Hair Down."
